Can one of the German readers (or one of the other readers that happens to know) please help me think of the name of this toy…it’s doing my head in:
When we lived in Germany (1987-1990) we all had these toy little bears. They were made of rubbery plastic, with a tiny layer of fluffy velvet on them. The head could turn. (I’m not sure if the rest of their bodies could.) There were many different types of clothes for them, and also chairs and beds etc. There were some different type of animals like this as well (I remember rabbits), but the “real” ones were the bears.
Argh I just hate it when I can’t for the life of me find them on google… Can someone help me out? Tell me the proper name of them? We all called them Bärchen, but when I google that word I only see other types of teddies, so I don’t think that this is their proper name. They were very popular. I think every girl in my class had them.

I know what you are talking about. Go to ebay.de and type in Bärenwald Simba and you’ll find them again. Those things were soooo popular but I only had a few.
Ja Bärbel, auf Dich ist wie immer verlass. Super! Daumen hoch. Schön sehen die ja schon aus. Nur mit Google hat man da wirklich keine Chance ein Bild zu finden. Bärenwald bringt mehr zutreffende Ergebnisse.

It so annoyed me that I couldn’t think of the proper name, and couldn’t find them.
I take it they don’t sell them in Germany in toy shops anymore? I wonder why that is?
They were indeed hugely popular, but like you say, I can only remember everyone having a few. I had four, I think. Maybe they were very expensive?
